Founded in 1935, the Ayrshire AFA currently has 58 member clubs playing in five divisions.
The Association's basic policy is to encourage recreational football in all our communities, large and small. Nevertheless, Ayrshire clubs have, over the years, proved themselves capable of competing with the best in the country and the Scottish Amateur Cup has been won by Ayrshire clubs on no less than 10 occasions and the West of Scotland Cup 15 times. In addition to our leagues, we run 4 annual knock-out cup competitions including the Ayrshire Challenge Cup, widely regarded as one of the top competitions in Scotland. For details of the winners of all our Cups over the years go to our "Cup Winners Archive"
The Association is a full member of the Scottish Amateur F.A. and plays an active role in the various SAFA bodies. We are proud of the fact that both the National Secretary of the SAFA, Hugh Knapp, and the Manager of the Scottish Amateur Select, Hugh Carswell, are Ayrshire men. Current Ayrshire President, Stuart Urquhart, is Senior Vice President of the SAFA and Ayrshire Secretary, Morris Tonner, is Match Secretary for the West of Scotland Amateur Cup.
We maintain excellent relationships with many of the other SAFA Leagues and Associations and our Select team compete in the tripartite John Smith's Inter-League competition with the Scottish Amateur Football League and the Central Scottish Amateur Football League. Ayrshire won the trophy in 2005 and 2006, and shared it with the Central Scottish AFL in 2009.
As the Association is essentially county based, we do not seek membership applications from outside Ayrshire but if you are based in Ayrshire and want to start a club please do contact us. Application Forms must be in our hands no later than 30th April so contact us well before that date. Enquiries to Morris Tonner on 01563 531061. Email mt@ayrshireafa.com
